Dr. Eichbaum was born and raised in Namibia and South Africa, where he obtained degrees in law, science and literature at the University of Cape Town. He traveled extensively and worked on various health-related projects on the African subcontinent before coming to the U.S., where he completed his M.D. and Ph.D. postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. This was followed by a residency and clinical fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital and research fellowships in infectious diseases at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Partners AIDS Research Center of Massachusetts General Hospital. He received his M.P.H. degree at the Harvard School of Public Health. He recently joined the Vanderbilt School of Medicine as Assistant Dean for Program Development and is an Associate Professor of Pathology and of Medical Education, as well as Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine.
