Margaret Tarpley M.L.S.

Senior Associate in Surgery

Ms. Tarpley currently serves in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Department of Surgery as a Senior Associate and works with general surgery residents and medical students. Her research interest lies in surgery education and cultural competence/sensitivity as related to medicine and health care and is tasked with bibliographical research for resident and student education. Her experience and education in library services allow her to provide bibliographical research and editorial assistance for faculty, staff and students. Ms. Tarpley also serves as webmaster for the Association of Program Directors in Surgery and a member of the Association for Surgical Education, ASAP (Alliance for Surgery and Anesthesia Presence today), and IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations & Institutions). Ms. Tarpley completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Vanderbilt University and spent 15 years as a theological librarian in Nigeria while her husband, John Tarpley, M.D., worked as a general surgeon and educator.
