- Antiretroviral therapy (ART) programs for HIV/AIDS in developing countries have observed high mortality rates in the first 90 days of ART. We are investigating whether nutritional factors, especially hypophosphatemia analogous to refeeding syndrome, contribute to this phenomenon and to other ART-related outcomes. Dr. Heimburger will discuss his research and experiences in Zambia.
